Police constable Nagaraju, 27, who was slain in Saturday’s encounter, was newly married and was the sole breadwinner of his family.
His wife Sanjana Rani, who came to the hospital on hearing the news, became inconsolable when the doctors announced that Nagaraju was brought dead.
“They got married four months ago. He was my only son, and he was taking care of us,” said his father Sriman Narayana, who could not control his tears. Nagaraju, who joined the district police recently, had earlier worked with the AP Special Police.
Atmakur sub-inspector G.D. Siddaiah, 29, was listed as critical. He was to go on leave from Saturday as his wife was expecting a baby.
The sub-inspector’s brother, Mr Dastagiri, said Sidhaiah had always wanted to be a police officer. “He never applied for any other job, and only aimed at becoming a policeman,” he said.
Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao commended the gallantry of the police. They had not feared even for their lives and are an inspiration to everybody. He said the people would cherish the memory of the three cops forever.
